Hear Professor Pádraig Ó Macháin from UCC discuss this work and why it is an unparalleled witness to Irish learning before the arrival of the English centuries ago.
While the ninth century manuscript, The Book of Kells, is known internationally and attracts over 600,000 visitors per year, you may not know that Trinity College is also home to 600 medieval manuscripts which range from the fifth to the sixteenth century.
Beyond the Book of Kells is a series which puts the spotlight on the other significant books that altogether cover the entire gamut of medieval thought.
The Book of Leinster contains the largest collections of Irish myth and history from before the 12th century, including one of the three surviving copies of the Táin.
Hear Professor Pádraig Ó Macháin from UCC discuss this work and why it is an unparalleled witness to Irish learning before the arrival of the English when he comes to the Trinity Long Room Hub on April 3rd.
