One of Ireland's finest medieval castles. A striking feature of the landscape from land, sea & air.

Carrickfergus Castle is a Norman castle in Northern Ireland, situated in the town of Carrickfergus in County Antrim, on the northern shore of Belfast Lough.
Besieged in turn by the Scots, Irish, English and French, the castle played an important military role until 1928 and remains one of the best preserved medieval structures in Ireland.

For more than 800 years, Carrickfergus Castle has been an imposing monument on the Northern Ireland landscape whether approached by land, sea or air. The castle now houses historical displays as well as cannons from the 17th to the 19th centuries.

There is limited disabled access for wheelchair users. All children must be accompanied by an adult. No dogs allowed except guide dogs and assistance dogs.

**Work on the Great Tower roof at Carrickfergus Castle!**

The Keep is currently closed while the remaining areas of the Castle remain open to the public as normal. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

A visit will give you the opportunity to see this exciting Great Tower roof replacement project! A new information centre will take you through the journey of the Roof Project and construction works, and you can view a real truss like the ones used for the new roof! You will also have the opportunity to see the newly opened costume room, winch room and chapel. So why not come along and visit!

The works are funded by the Department for Communities and are due for completion in the Autumn of 2019. When the work is completed, the space will offer an enhanced experience for the visitor.

Note this is a major construction project and there will be restrictions on access to certain areas of the castle complex from time to time.
For those unable to make it in person to the castle, regular updates including time lapse video footage will be available on the LoveHeritageNI facebook page.
***NOTE: THERE IS CURRENTLY NO ACCESS TO THE KEEP***
