Boats from all over the UK and Ireland converge on Portaferry for music, dance and more.
During the Portaferry Sails and Sounds Festival, boats from all over the UK and Ireland will converge on the loughshore town of Portaferry for a weekend of traditional Irish and Scottish music and dance with workshops, children's entertainment, land-based activities and music throughout the town. It is a fun filled four day festival hosting traditional sailing boats, including rowing, tall ships, and all classes of boats in a parade of sail.
You can have a trip up Strangford Lough in the tall ships and lunch is even provided. Music will play throughout the town all week in various venues including local pubs. There will be dance and music workshops in both Irish and Scottish music. The free kids’ entertainment includes arts and crafts (where you can make you very own pirate hat and accessories), a bouncy castle, face painting and balloon modellers to name only a few. There will be a street theatre re-enactment ‘The Smugglers of Strangford Lough’, maritime history talks and exhibits and one act drama events in various locations.
