Towers and Tales is a celebration of children's books, stories and illustration, designed to give young audiences unforgettable, creative and transformational experiences with books.

Since the inaugural festival in 2015, Towers and Tales has become a unique event for families, children and young people. The Festival encourages audiences to engage with literature and storytelling through innovative programming and a focus on participation.

In 2019 the festival hosted world class authors and illustrators Philip Reeve, Sarah McIntrye, Rob Biddulph, Mary Murphy, David Roberts, Siobhán Parkinson, Jarvis and Marion Deuchars. These artists formed the core programme, and were supported by events facilitated by Glucksman Gallery, Music Generation Waterford, Childvision Ireland, Chidren's Books Ireland, Lismore Castle Arts and Illustrators Ireland. The programme focuses heavily on participation, engaging young audiences and empowering them to create their own work and stories, through workshops, masterclasses and readings, with a mix of free and ticketed events to ensure maximum accessibility.

The festival takes place in the idyllic setting of Lismore Castle, and is supported by other venues in the town of Lismore - Lismore Library, The Heritage Centre, SummerHouse Café and The Red Hall. Over 3,000 festival goers came through the castle gates on May 4th 2019, and were welcomed to a full festival experience as well programme activities - pop up events, doodlewalls, a Foodie Stableyard, Eason's book tent and activities in the castle gardens for all the family.

2020 will see world class authors and illustrators come together to create another exciting programme. RJ Palacio of Wonder fame, John and Fatti Burke, Oisin McGann and GIY’s mercurial Grower-in-Chief Monty Sheddington Potts with lots more exciting guests to be announced.
