The Art of AE
Painter, poet and mystic George Russell (also known as AE) was born in Lurgan in 1867 and had a varied career. He was actively involved in highlighting the plight of the farmer and instrumental in setting up the Co-operative movement.
However, his artistic talents emerged through his poetry and painting and was reported to have said his only read delight painting. He was fascinated by the spiritual world and his painting reflected his dreams and visions that were captivated by Irish myths and legends.
The selection of works on display from the Museum's extensive collection of AE paintings, demonstrates the range of subjects that inspired his artistic talent
