My Ireland with Colin

After 15 years away, Dublin born chef, restaurateur and My Kitchen Rules judge Colin Fassnidge returns home to discover the changing face of food in Ireland.

Colin’s recent foodie adventure saw him travelling the length and breadth of the country to find Ireland’s best food producers, where he used their food to create amazing dishes with his own twist, and shared a bit of craic along the way! He took us on a tour of his childhood haunts in Dublin where we met his parents and extended family. Then, on the back of his transport of choice - a Ducati 1200 - Colin headed out on a culinary tour of some of Ireland’s most beautiful food producing areas - from Seaweed harvesting, and herding sheep off the west coast, to collecting delicious golden honey, picking apples to make cider and snail farming in Kilkenny to feeding pigs on their own private island in Fermanagh.

Colin also paid a special visit to Áras an Uachtaráin" to meet the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, and got some tips on the President's latest plans to turn Ireland into an organic food bowl for Europe. On his visit to Northern Ireland, Colin found out how Derry/Londonderry has renewed itself as a foodie destination with top class restaurants dotted around the city. During his trip, Colin took up the challenge to learn how to surf in Lahinch which sits along the Wild Atlantic Way, and further north in Donegal, he shows off some rusty drumming skills to a lively gathering in front of a welcoming fire and a very tolerant crowd in Leo’s Tavern.
