Fishery Manager, Moy Fishery, Ballina, Mayo,
The Moy Fishery controls both banks downstream of the weir in Ballina, County Mayo and a short stretch above the weir. It is one of Ireland’s most productive salmon fisheries where catches of over 5,000 salmon have been recorded in a season.
The Moy Fishery is located within the Ballina town boundaries and is over 2.5km long. Most of the Moy River and its larger tributaries provide excellent spring salmon and grilse fishing with both fly and bait. Anglers to the area can also fish for large stocks of sea trout.
The main part of the river is very deep and wide and huge numbers of salmon are caught here every year. A very popular place to fish for salmon is the Ridge Pool, which alone has produced up to 2,660 salmon in one season.
Open season runs from 1 February until 30 September.
