Holy Island, in Lough Derg in County Clare, is one of the most famous monastic sites in Ireland. Its many attractions include a well preserved Round Tower, the ruins of six churches and a bargaining stone where marriage vows are still renewed.

Pilgrims from all over the world come to visit the Monastic site on Holy Island or Inis Cealtra, in Lough Derg County Clare. There are a number of historical monuments of interest on the island including a well preserved Round Tower, the ruins of six churches, a holy well and a bargaining stone where marriage vows are still renewed. The Island is chiefly associated with St Caiman who died in 653 AD. During his time Holy Island was a great centre of learning. People from Clare are still laid to rest in the cemetery on Holy Island just off the shoreline on Lough Derg. Boats depart from Mountshannon, one of Ireland's tidiest villages.
