The are several walking routes in the Sliabh Beagh area of County Monaghan, including Sliabh Beagh Way and 36 looped walks.
Length of Trail 13.5km approx.This trail takes in the sites made immortal by the works of Patrick Kavanagh, including many featured in "Tarry Flynn" and "The Green Fool".
Rossmore Forest Park is located 3.5km south west of Monaghan Town on the R189 to Newbliss. It has several forest walks, a Nature Trail and a Yew walk. The walks range from 2 - 4 miles and are mainly in the forested area and are well sign posted. The most scenic walk is the 'Priestfield' walk which is approximately 3 miles in length and leads past the Rossmore family crypt.
This trail takes walkers on a journey from the town’s monastic beginnings to recent plans to revive the Ulster Canal.
The trail will take walkers to many of Monaghan’s finest historical buildings from the 18th and 19th Centuries, including the County Museum, Peter’s Lake and the Courthouse.
