The Connemara Trail and The Connemara Coast Trail in County Galway offer the best possible way to discover the Connemara region of Ireland by horseback. Riders can go off the beaten track as they travel mountains passes and woodlands, cross blankets of Connemara bog lands, navigate stony paths and maybe even swim with their horse in the Atlantic Ocean. The host for the trail is Willie Leahy or a member of his family. For over 40 years, the Leahy family have enjoyed introducing visitors to the West of Ireland. Their friendly care ensures riders return home with special memories of a wonderful holiday. Willie is the largest breeder of Connemara ponies in the world and is also the Field Master of the famous Galway Blazers Hunt. He has a remarkable ability to match rider and horse to ensure riders get the best experience from their trail ride. Riders spend four to six hours a day on well-mannered, surefooted Irish hunters and Connemara ponies. The trail guides have an extensive knowledge of the history and nature of the area. This is a unique way to see the spectacular scenery of Connemara. Overnight accommodation is in either hotels or guest houses. All are chosen for their friendly atmosphere and pleasant facilities. Lunch is eaten on the trail, amidst the splendour of the surrounding landscape. Non-riders are welcome to accompany riding partners.
