The Mouth Of The Shannon Cycling Tour
- View as map
The 211km Mouth of the Shannon Cycling Tour goes through the plains of north Kerry and Limerick. The region is bordered to the west by the ocean, to the north by the estuary of the River Shannon and low mountains and farmlands to the east and south.
Northwards along the coast the Mouth of the Shannon Cycling Tour takes cyclists past sandy beaches until diverting around Kerry Head to the highest point at 120m. The route turns eastwards at the resort of Ballybunion and follows the Shannon to the city of Limerick.
South of Limerick is Lough Gur, a beautiful lake where traces of civilisation go back thousands of years. Turning back to Tralee cyclists pass through Adare, the most picturesque village in Ireland. Like other towns on the way, Adare has old churches, monasteries and castles.
