Ahenny, Tipperary, Republic of Ireland
A series of festivals, began in 1992 continues to add to the creation of a large number of modern, outdoor sculptural displays in the former slate quarries of Ahenny which straddle the Kilkenny and Tipperary county border.
The now disused slate quarry at Ahenny County Tipperary was quarried from the 14th Century onwards. Stone from this site was used in the building of Kell Priory in Kells and Ornmonde Castle in Carrick on Suir. The quarry now hosts an outdoor gallery of sculptures.
Geologically this is a good place to see grey and blue Silurian rock.
This quarry is on private property.
