Books@One is an Independent, Non-Profit Community Bookshop in Louisburgh, Co. Mayo selling second-hand and new books (including local interest). The shop is a bright, modern and welcoming social hub serving up great coffee and local banter.

Books@One is a bookshop with a difference, it’s an independent ‘Destination Bookshop’ where they don’t just sell you a book, it’s a place to visit, to become immersed in and participate in community events such as coffee mornings (or tea/hot chocolate if you prefer), book/poetry readings, story-telling, open mics, book signings and general “comings and goings”. Somewhere to find out what’s going on in the area, enjoy a coffee, a browse and a chat or just relax in one of the cosy armchairs or in the little courtyard.

Boasting a modern and very comfortable interior, this Bookshop has a passion for books, aiming to ignite (or re-ignite) that passion in others by offering a wonderful, creative space and promoting Book Love to ALL (particularly kids and teens). It’s also a Community Bookshop to benefit the area by promoting literature and the arts, encouraging social inclusion and playing a modest part in regeneration.

As a Social Enterprise, any profits go back into the shop and projects to champion literacy and creative writing amongst young people. It’s the first of a planned roll-out of similar projects nationwide, each one offering an individual experience – the next will be in Dublin.

Beyond a quirky little courtyard full of unexpected features, there’s a Kids’ Reading Room with a shrine to Harry Potter showing all kinds of mementos as well as memorabilia from other major movies. A little unusual for a bookshop in a small town on the beautiful west coast of Ireland, but the Manager, Neil, spent years working on film sets all over the world which means he not only has a great selection of souvenirs, he also has a few good stories. Speaking of which, a regular feature is Shelley’s Storytime – every Saturday from 11.00 to 12.00 for kids of 3-7 years.
