Walking Walking City Break City Break 48 Hours Belfast City History and Heritage You’ve read and reread the books, watched the movie countless times and even own some Edwardian collectables. But have you made this Titanic trip yet? The wreck of the RMS Titanic came to rest about 600 km off the Canadian coast, but Belfast is where the Ship of Dreams was designed, built and berthed. Here’s how to spend 48 hours there immersed in Titanic and maritime culture. Titanic in 48 Hours Day One Today, you’ll get to explore the world’s largest Titanic visitor experience, step aboard the Titanic’s little sister, and dine on the last menu served on board to First Class passengers. A walking 2 mins View at Cast and Crew 8:30am Start the day with a hearty breakfast fit for a shipbuilder in Cast and Crew. Nestled beneath Samson and Goliath, the iconic Harland and Wolff cranes that came to represent maritime Belfast, the Ulster Fry here is a mouth-watering must. B walking 3 mins Titanic Belfast 10am James Cameron loves it, and you will, too! Titanic Belfast is the largest Titanic visitor experience in the world and tells the ship's tragic tale through interactive exhibits. Situated on the exact spot the Titanic was built, you’ll need a few hours to take in the hands-on displays, including an underwater exploration theatre, a dark ride and recreated cabins complete with passenger holograms. If you have more time Once you’ve had your fill of the exhibits, drop into Bistro 401 in the public atrium on the ground floor and fill up on their Titanic treats like traditional fish and chips served in newspaper. The White Star Line crockery adds a nice nautical touch. C driving 10 mins The SS Nomadic 4pm Back in 1912, the SS Nomadic carried eager passengers from France onto the Titanic. Since then, the Titanic’s little sister has been lovingly restored and moored in Belfast, where you can come aboard and walk in the footsteps of her passengers. D Rayanne House 7pm Roast squab, anyone? How about some spiced peaches? You’ll eat these and more as part of Rayanne House’s 9-course meal, a recreation of Titanic’s last menu served in First Class. Make sure to check the dates it's served online – and bring your biggest appetite! Day Two Day two takes you down to the dry dock where the Titanic was constructed, onto the water where the ship disembarked and over to the Memorial Gardens where you can pay your respects. E driving 6 mins Thompson Dry Dock 8:30am The Edwardian-era Thompson Dry Dock is where Titanic’s welders, riveters, platers and caulkers put the final touches to the Ship of Dreams. Grab a coffee in the Pumphouse and walk along the original keel blocks where she rested on the eve of her first and last voyage. F walking 12 mins Boat Tour on the River Lagan 10am To truly understand the Titanic, you really have to understand Belfast’s rich maritime heritage. The best way to do that? A guided boat tour which takes in the Titanic Quarter by the iconic River Lagan every weekend. If you have more time We all remember the moment in the movie when Rose descends the grand staircase dressed in that shimmering beaded gown – and now you can replicate it! Titanic Belfast has actually reproduced that very staircase, where you can strike a pose, take a snapshot, and indulge with themed tea and cakes every Sunday. G walking 7 mins Titanic Memorial Gardens 4pm It’s hard to comprehend the loss of life that occurred on April 15, 1912. The Titanic Memorial Garden and Monument at Belfast City Hall is the place to pay your respects to all 1,512 people who perished, where each and every name is inscribed on bronze plaques. H Robinsons Bar 7pm Stepping into Robinsons Bar is like stepping on board the Titanic – albeit First Class. Dark wood, polished brass fittings and cabinets packed with authentic Titanic relics make it a great place to pull up a stool and end the day.
