Learn traditional skills from Ireland's best stone carvers and dry stone wallers on the stunning Sheep's Head peninsula

The West Cork Stone Symposium celebrates stone as part of our environment and as a source of inspiration throughout the ages.

Be inspired by the Sheep's Head peninsula, home to one of Ireland’s most creative communities. Discover how stone has shaped our lives and imaginations. And unleash your own creativity as you learn from stone masons, carvers, and sculptors and immerse yourself in learning ancient skills.

The West Cork Stone Symposium gives you the opportunity to work alongside amazing craftspeople, acquiring skills that have been passed down from generation to generation. Talks and walks are on offer over the weekend, and there’ll be music in Durrus village’s pubs each evening after absorbing days full of conversation and collaboration.

At each day’s workshop, you’ll get the chance to learn stone carving or dry stone wall building for yourself. These are practical workshops where you learn by doing, with helpful advice from our experienced tutors who’ve worked across the world on heritage restoration projects as well as contemporary designs.

Beginners and experienced craftspeople are welcome to a festival where ideas and skills are shared with great generosity. Sign up for one day, two, or three, and don't miss out on the music, conversation and stories that make the symposium such a wonderful community gathering.

This creative weekend will equip you with skills that will last a lifetime, and you'll be helping to keep Ireland's craft traditions alive into the future too.
