Auf der Karte anzeigen

Newmarket-on-Fergus, Clare,

Mooghaun Bronze Age Hillfort was built at the beginning of the Late Bronze Age around 950 BC. The site is enclosed by woodland and is a self-guided trail up to the Hillfort which is identified as the largest in Ireland.

This is a beautiful walk through a forested area leading up to a slight hill to Mooghaun Hill Fort, which is a large Bronze Age fort.
The largest and most spectacular hoard of prehistoric gold in Western Europe was found at Mooghaun Lough 1km north of the hillfort.

The mid clare way trail also goes through the Mooghaun Bronze Age Hillfort.
