Blackfield Surf School is an ISA approved school (Irish Surfing Association), which concentrates on teaching beginners and novice surfers to surf on Trawmore beach, Achill Island, County Galway.
Blackfield Surf School boats an eye-catching double decker bus, which houses a surf shop and a coffee bar on the top deck.
Trawmore beach is an ideal safe place for learning to surf, and Blackfield Surf School teaches beginner and intermediate surfers in a safe, fun way, with the best equipment including standard and high-performance soft surfboard. They are based on Achill Island, County Galway
In summertime, they run a kids' only camp, aimed at 10 to 16 year olds (although younger children can go if they are accompanied by a guardian). They are well equipped to run courses in the colder months as well.
It is run by Gerry Brannigan, who has over 20 years surfing experience as well as many years as a beach lifeguard all over Ireland, including six summers on Trawmore beach itself. Their building is less than a mile from the beach, and their eye-catching double decker bus houses a surf shop and a coffee bar on the top deck. This unique four-wheeled attraction is located right on Keel beach itself, and is open daily.
They introduced mini-land yachts into the school in 2010, so if you prefer to stay dry, you can learn to sail along the sand of Keel beach in one of their three-wheeled land yachts.
