Other local amenities include brown trout fishing, a nine-hole golf course, sub-aqua diving, hand gliding, windsurfing, canoeing, kayaking, hill walking, rock climbing and a wealth of historical sites such as the 16th-century Kildownet Castle, owned by Pirate Queen Grainne Uaile. The work of various craftspeople is available in outlets throughout the area and at the local country market. Treasures to be discovered include pottery, knitted goods, paintings and sculptures.
Anglers will also find themselves in paradise, as trout, salmon and basking shark are all present. Around Achill there are many good fishing spots; one can have the pleasure of fishing from the rocks between the Golden Strand and Dugort, and by the rocks near Purteen Harbour or at Carrigmore between Doonagh and Keem Bay.
