The Gables Self Catering Accommodation, a former 18th Century fishing lodge located adjacent to Kilkenny City, stands on the original site of the old Archersgrove House. This property offers old world charm in a peaceful country setting.
Savour old world charm in this award winning three bedroom Irish fishing lodge which captures old world elegance. The Gables self catering accommodation is located on the outskirts of medieval Kilkenny City on rich limestone land in the midst of Archersgrove Farm estate, which covers nearly 200 acres. Once inside you will feel an immediate sense of warmth, security and homeliness.
On arrival you will be personally greeted with a warm Irish welcome by your hosts, Kevin and Joan, who will show you to your cottage where a complimentary ‘Welcome Pack’ of home baking awaits you. As you wake up in the morning listen to the birds singing outside in the horse chestnut tree and gaze out at the ponies grazing in the fields. Then take a walk down to the river to catch fresh fish for your supper.
The house boasts many interesting features such as the marble fireplace; Kilkenny is known as the ‘Marble City’ and the black marble for the fire surround came from the famous Black Quarry which is located on the farm. The fireplace is quite unique as there is a high content of fossil detail visible in the marble.
The Gables can accommodate five guests in one double room, one twin room and a single room. There is a fully equipped kitchen with integrated appliances and a downstairs bathroom with shower. Bed linen and towels are supplied, and guide dogs and hearing dogs welcome.
The current Archersgrove House visible from The Gables was built in 1904 by Mr James Poe. The Gables is part of a wing of Archersgrove House that incorporated a coach house. The building was constructed in the early 18th Century and in 1990 the coach house was transformed into the current Gables. One striking feature visible from outside of The Gables is the limestone corner stones; limestone is native to the local area. Outside the house boasts a lovely walled garden with barbeque facilities.
