Discover the timeless allure of Irish history and culture at Hill of the O'Neill and Ranfurly House.

Sitting in a prized spot in the heart of Dungannon town, County Tyrone, the Hill of the O'Neill is a rampart that dates back centuries. Once the stronghold of the O'Neill dynasty, one of the island’s most influential families, this hill fortification is a historically significant site with an intriguing and often bloody past. Visitors can explore the ruins and enjoy interactive exhibits about the family’s 300-year reign and its impact on local history. Afterwards, the nearby outdoor viewing tower is a perfect spot from which to soak up the glorious views of Lough Neagh, the Sperrins, the Mournes and the Cooley Mountains.

APerfect for uncovering more local history, Ranfurly House sits next to the Hill and is home to a permanent exhibition on the Flight of The Earls and the Plantation of Ulster. Step inside here and you’ll be into a world of the 16th-century Irish chieftain with all the battles, feasts and fashions that typified life back then. The house also details the Plantation of Ulster and how Ulster forged a path different to the ancient Gaelic laws and beliefs of the rest of the island. Keep an eye out for changing cultural events here that are held throughout the year.
