Dalkey Book Festival
They say Dublin is a city of villages. It's also a UNESCO City of Literature. Makes sense then that literary legends flock to Dalkey, a seaside village 20 minutes from Dublin, for the annual Dalkey Book Festival.
- #Literature
The charming seaside town of Dalkey lies just 20 minutes from Dublin's city centre, easily reached on the DART train from Connolly Station. Every June this sleepy seaside village is transformed into a lively literary hub for the Dalkey Book Festival.
People flock to this lovely town for the gorgeous architecture built into the sheer landscape, the stunning views and for the cosy village atmosphere it has at its core. Dalkey was also the birthplace of George Bernard Shaw and has a rich literary heritage, making it the perfect place for a literary festival of books and ideas.
Famous novelists that have attended in previous years include Salman Rushdie, Joseph O'Connor, John Banville and Sebastian Barry. As well as literary legends, book lovers from around Ireland and the world attend the weekend-long event, even U2 frontman Bono, who owns a house in the village made an appearance at last years festival!
The Zurich Dalkey Book Festival takes place from 11 - 14 June, 2015.
