Neptune is a provider of guided kayak, canoe and SUP tours in Cork Harbour. All instructors are fully qualified and have local knowledge of the area’s cultural sites, from hidden dolmens to famine graveyards, from fishing hotspots to bird watching sanctuaries. And that is just above water, for those that enjoy the scenery below sea level, there is a fully equipped dive centre, which will be providing guided wreck diving tours from 2014 onwards.
Changing facilities are available on site, along with a full array of wetsuits, head gear and bouyancy aids to fit every shape and size. Rental fleets include cockpit kayaks, single and double sit on tops, rigid and inflatable Stand Up Paddleboards and for those of you who love the water and but hate the wet, there are Canadian canoes. If it sounds a little too easy and a little too dry, it may be time to try raft building.
For those of you that would rather spectate, there are park benchs, teas, coffees and refreshments including an icecream kiosk on a tricycle….
Neptune can also provide custom built, full day activities incorporating all the East Harbour has to offer in tandem with their tours. Whether it be surfing, coasteering, paintballing, wilderness adventures or overnight trips to their base camp on Spike Island, they can plan an action packed adventure that you will never forget.
There are year round day and week camps for kids, as well as full tuition on a one to one basis or as a group learning session. There are family fun days once a month, kids and adult taster sessions on a weekly basis, and social paddles (where canoeists, kayakers, SUPers, swimmers and spectators line up) that normally end up a couple of hundred yards down the coast in “Rosies” the local waterside watering hole.
Kids’ summer camps cater for all ages. The camp is week long and has a different activity every morning and afternoon, including kayaking, SUP, raft building, surfing, coasteering, med evac training, wilderness training, assault courses and paintballing, all culminating in a Friday afternoon BBQ for kids and parents alike. A good night’s sleep guaranteed every time.
Neptune’s new base of operations on Spike Island will provide a year round adventure assault course and training centre, with over night facilities, boot camp training and team building initiatives. It also acts as a destination for paddling tours, incorporating cultural tours of Fort Mitchell and all its recent renovation has to offer. The Spike Island experience is something that will stay with you long after the sea air has washed off.
