The Killaloe Heritage Centre displays an imaginative exhibition charting the history of Killaloe and its Celtic and nautical significance. It features a wonderful section dedicated to Brian Ború, once High King of Ireland.
The Killaloe Heritage Centre comprises a tourist information office, gift shop, crafts centre, and an exhibition tracing the history of Killaloe from the 10th century to the present day, including the town's strong nautical links with Lough Derg, the largest of the River Shannon lakes.
An important feature is the section dedicated to Brian Ború (940-1014), former High King of Ireland who was born just a few miles from the village. The arrival of Christianity and the monastic tradition is also featured.
The tourist office has a full range of services, including reservations for cruiser hire, accommodation, medieval banquets, Irish nights, and many other attractions.
The office is fully wheelchair-accessible and is open 10am-5pm from May to mid-September.
