The Achill Archaeological Summer Field School in County Mayo is a training school for students of archaeology and related disciplines.
The Achill Archaeological Field School in County Mayo was established in 1991 as a training school for students of archaeology, anthropology and related disciplines.
Achill has a rich archaeological heritage that spans the entire spectrum of Irish history from the remote Neolithic to the 19th century.
Half and one-day guided tours are available of various sites on Achill, including the post-medieval, deserted village of Slievemore. This settlement of some 74 houses and field systems was abandoned in the wake of the Great Irish Famine, 1845-1850.
A hallmark of Achill Field School is a reputation for quality training. It caters for small groups and all instruction is delivered directly by highly-experienced archaeologists and environmental scientists.
2nd Level School Tours programme available. Programme for 2014 available on web site from 30 September 2013.
