18 mins from City of Derry Airport

Just across from the iconic Guildhall and tucked inside the historic 400-year-old city walls, the Tower Museum is one of Derry~Londonderry’s top attractions.

Since it opened in 1992, the museum has received four top awards and its central location and well-presented exhibitions make it a popular location with both visitors and locals. If you want to get the inside track on the history of the city, the Story of Derry – one of the museum’s two permanent exhibitions – is brilliant for bringing Derry~Londonderry’s past to light. The second permanent exhibition, An Armada Shipwreck – La Trinidad Valencera, tells the intriguing story of one of the largest ships in the Spanish Armada, which sank off the Donegal coast in the late 16th century and was discovered by divers in 1971.

Fans of the hit TV show Derry Girls will get a kick out of the Derry Girls Experience at the museum, which features original items from the TV show including the girls’ famous Spice Girls costumes. Afterwards, why not take a walk around some of the other Derry~Londonderry landmarks featured in the show, including the city walls, Bogside and the Guildhall, and enjoy the very best that Derry~Londonderry has to offer.
