This historic gem is nestled in the idyllic countryside of County Tyrone.

If you fancy a rural escape for a day on your Northern Ireland adventure, Lissan House is just the spot. This 400-year-old home is beautifully situated in the valley of the Lissan Water. The house was first built by an enterprising Englishman called Thomas Staples around 1620, with much of the current structure being erected around 1660. Tour the house to hear tales of his descendants – from Baronets to Ladies – who lived here down through the centuries.

As well as the house, a lush 267-acre estate is ready and waiting to be explored. The ancient woodland here features pretty forest trails and riverside walks. In late spring, bluebells cover the forest floor in the most vivid display and wildflower meadows add a pop of colour to the greenery during the warm summer months. You’ll find it easy to while away a few languid hours here amid such natural splendour. Whether you’re a history buff, nature lover, or just someone who wants to sample one of Northern Ireland’s finest estates, Lissan House delivers. Ready to be charmed?
