See what Ireland has in store for you
Spend a night under the stars, learning about the ancient Beaghmore Stone Circles and gazing at the constellations through a state-of-the-art telescope at OM Dark Sky Park and Observatory. Boasting the darkest sky in the heart of ancient Ulster, you can spend the evening and night at the foothills of the Sperrin Mountains, by the edge of Davagh Forest and the Beaghmore Stone Circles. The Stars and Stones Experience invites you to step back in time and learn about these ancient stones, our first observatory. You’ll be joined by a local story-teller and guide as they deftly weave together archaeology and astronomy, telling you about the stones and how they were first discovered. Because here is where the link between a Neolithic and our modern-day observatory is strongest, connecting this unique Dark Sky with the heritage around you. Then make your way through an interactive Solar Walk to the site’s hi-tech LX 600 go to Meade telescope, bringing you within reach of the stars themselves. Here you will meet your astronomer for an even closer look at the breath-taking wonders above. With total protection from light pollution, your tour ends with a spectacular film experience projected on to the outside of the building itself. But that doesn’t mean your stargazing has to end. Sperrin Glamping Village, beside the Beaghmore Stone Circles, let’s you sleep under the stars too. Lay your head down in cosy comfort and watch the night sky through the glass roof overhead. Just don’t forget to turn off the lights! Nighty night. Please note: This experience is only available between October to March.
