See what Ireland has in store for you
The Armagh Observatory and Planetarium is Northern Ireland's leading astronomical research and education facility. It offers visitors a unique experience which makes it "the place for space". In the Planetarium’s Digital Full Dome Theatre you can sit back, relax and experience the wonders of our Universe. Take a tour of the night sky, and discover how our scientific research has impacted the field of astronomy. Explore our exhibition area and learn more about the rich heritage of both the Armagh Observatory and the Armagh Planetarium. Look Closer and get to know the depth of our scientific research with hands on activities and workshops. You can also touch Ireland's largest meteorite! Relax and discover the wonders of space in our Sensory Space. Take a stroll around our Astropark, which is 14 acres of attractive, landscaped grounds. Discover the scale models of the Solar System and the Universe and a wide range of flora and fauna. Of particular interest are the Observatory building, Human Orrery, two sundials, and historic telescopes and telescope domes. Download the Look Around app for our Astropark and learn more about space, the nature around you, and our history. There are two different types of outdoor trails. Our children's trail ‘Cosmo, Lost in Space’ will take you on an eco-journey by following our accompanying workbook full of activities (available for purchase in the Planetarium), and explore augmented reality (AR) points in the grounds meeting sculptures along the way! If you are more interested in space and the history and heritage of the site, choose our ‘Astropark Journey’ trail. You can find out more about Armagh’s rich astronomical research, how to use the Human Sundial and even find out about objects in the Observatory building! Look out for AR points along the way. To enable the full functionality of the app, you will need to enter a 4-digit code that you can find at the Planetarium reception during our opening times, and download some additional data (you can use our free visitor WiFi). Pre-booking is essential for a visit to The Armagh Observatory and Planetarium. For opening times, dome show times and events please visit www.armagh.space You can book tickets online via our website www.armagh.space or call us on (028) 3752 3689.
