Killinchy and Whiterock

These localities lie in the heart of the drumlin country – small regular-shaped hills formed during the Ice Age – which merges with the coastline to make a tour of the area, a memorable experience. This is the heart of yachting interest in the lough with a former lightship, The Petrel, the headquarters for a yacht club. Nearby, at Sketrick Island, are the ruins of one of the massive fortresses built near Strangford in the late Middle Ages.

One of Ulster’s finest archaeological sites is Mahee Island, where the ruins of Nendrum Monastery overlook the lough and provide a fascinating setting for a stroll with wonderful views.
