The Donegal Trad Trail is a traditional music tour operating from Donegal Town visiting the villages of Ardara, Dunkineely and Glenties.

The Donegal Trad Trail is a traditional music tour run by the Donegal School of Traditional Irish Music. The tour bus will leave from the tourist information office in Donegal Town each night at 9pm and will arrive at one of 3 designated Irish music sessions. The bus will leave the session at approx 12pm arriving in Donegal Town again at approx 12.30pm. The sessions chosen are some of the best you will find in Co. Donegal and you are guarnateed a night full of music, song, dance and above all, 'craic'!

Ardara is a village with an extremely rich musical history and is the birthplace of John 'The Tae' Gallagher and John Doherty, two of the finest Donegal fiddle players. These legends of Irish music are honoured each year with their very own festival. The Cup of Tae Festival which honours John 'The Tae' Gallagher, takes place each year in May and is a wonderful weekend of street music, concerts, classes, dancing and fun. In September, John Doherty is remembered with another weekend full of music, song and dance. Last year (2013) a bust of John Doherty was erected in the centre of the village which was unveiled by none other than Altan's Mairead Ní Mhaonaigh. Ardara has a musical magic about it that you will carry with you, even after one visit!

Dunkineely is another of the sessions on the Trad Trail. Synonomous with both accordion and fiddle music, the session in Dunkineely is truly unique and there have been manys the session lasting until the wee hours and life long friends made. Home to Aidan O'Donnell of 'Fidil', Dunkineely has a strong history of music and sessions which have seen musicians and visitors alike return to enjoy the magic of the session each year.

The third session on the trail is in Glenties. Home to the world famous Campbell family, Glenties is one of those places that will enchant you, the music will enchant you. Like the other destinations on the trail, Glenties also hosts some great Irish music festivals, The Glenties Fiddlers Weekend. You can be guarantee that at any of the sessions on our trail, you will be immeresed in some of the best local music provided by some of the most well known players from this part of the country.
