One of the best ways to explore the enchanting and tranquil region of Duhallow in north west County Cork is to follow the Duhallow Trail Cycle Route.
The Duhallow Trail Cycle Route gives a unique insight into rural life in Duhallow. This is a place of beautiful isolation and small hospitable communities.
The main route, of over 187km (116miles) is well signposted.
By following the distinctive Duhallow Trail signposts you can spend some carefree hours enjoying the pleasures of Duhallow life.
Situated in the north west corner of County Cork, Duhallow is an area of approximately 1500 square km comprising the ancient Barony of Duthallow, west Muskerry and parts of east Kerry. Largely rural, the barony has three main market towns Kanturk, Millstreet and Newmarket and a number of villages. Northern Duhallow is characterised by bogland, forestry and pure fresh country air. This is an area rich in culture and tradition which has carried through to the present day under the ‘Sliabh Luachra’ identity. In Duhallow there are centuries of heritage and history to be discovered. The River Blackwater which flows through Duhallow is famous for its excellent fishing.
