First opened to the public in 1960, Westport House & Grounds is one of Ireland’s best loved heritage attractions.

For over 50 years, Westport House has been the home of family fun in the beautiful West of Ireland. With something for all ages – toddlers to grand-parents – it truly captures your imagination. The beauty of the house itself and it's stunning interior is complimented by it's natural parkland and Lakeland setting bringing a blissful calm to all members of the clan. The Pirate Adventure Park is sure to keep the little ones entertained with its range of rides, slides, boats and trains and the Adventure Activity Centre providing milder to wilder activities for 6 year olds and up! The Westport Train Tour which starts and finishes it's heritage town tour on the grounds of Westport House, is loved by all ages too. Couple this with Westport House’s proximity and connection to Westport Town as well as a fascinating history that dates back to Grace O’Malley, the Pirate Queen of Connaught, and you certainly won’t be left wondering why Westport House has been voted the Best Family Visitor Attraction in the West in 2015, 2016 and 2017!

The ‘big house’ has been on this site since the 1500’s, when Grace O’Malley, the famous Pirate Queen, built one of her castles here. The current house – built in 1730 on the ruins of one of her castles - has an abundance of artifacts, artwork and treasures. Learn all about the history of the house through 30 stunning rooms and 6 permanent exhibitions and don't forget to visit the dark dungeons where Grace O'Malley would have kept her prisoners. After soaking up the beautiful interiors, take a stroll around the beautiful gardens and enjoy the riverside walk, Spanish Armada Cannons or the Famine pots.

If you have children under twelve, you will create family memories that will last a lifetime with a visit to the Pirate Adventure Park. Named after the famous pirate Queen of Connaught, Grace O’Malley, a day pass to Westport House & Pirate Adventure Park provides unlimited use of the rides and attractions all day long. Enjoy rides such as the Cannonball Run slide, Pirates Swinging Ship and Pirates Plunge log flume ride. Paddle yourself fit on the Giant Swan Pedalo Boats on the lake or take a turn on the Bouncy Castle or Go Karting. Enjoy some fresh air while you visit the Pirates Playground or shelter from the rain in the indoor soft play area.

When you’re ready to take a little relaxation, join in on the Westport Train Tour for a 1 hour sightseeing tour of historic Westport town and Quay and immerse yourself in a fun, yet fact-filled journey. Alternatively, why not visit the Westport House Birds of Prey Center where you can enjoy a Birds of Prey show in the courtyard or take part in a one on one hawk walk.

With something for everyone in the family, you will be sure to make magical family memories at Westport House that will last a lifetime.
