This three-day event will include a bicentenary conference, a book launch, and a Michael Collins commemoration.

On the Friday, don't miss the official opening of the Crime and Punishment in 19th and 20th-Century Ireland conference, which will feature the launch of Bridget - A Child of Sligo Gaol, a children's book set in Sligo Gaol in the year 1839. Produced by Friends of Sligo Gaol, this book is beautifully illustrated by Wayne O'Connor.

Saturday will offer a diverse selection of conference topics, ranging from the Spike Island excavations to dark tourism, and primarily centring on Ireland's historic prisons. Discussions will be led by leading experts in the field of crime and punishment in 19th and 20th-century Ireland.

Speakers include: Dr Richard McMahon; Dr Ciara Breathnach; Tim Carey; Dr Geraldine Curtin; Dr Barra O’ Donnabhain; Dr Laura McAtackney, and Dr Gillian O’Brien.

The final day of the conference offers a treat for all Michael Collins fans with an official Michael Collins commemoration. The famous figure was an inmate in Sligo Gaol 100 years ago.
