Prototypes is a series of video installations by the Berlin-based Irish artist Doireann O’Malley will be exhibited in Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane this summer.

Prototypes will feature two five-screen video installations. Prototypes I was initially developed in Berlin and exhibited at Edith Russ Haus in that city. It weaves together ideas from transgender studies, sci-fi, biopolitics, psychoanalysis, and artificial intelligence. Prototypes I focuses on female-to-male transitions and is set in Berlin’s Interbau Project.

Prototypes II is a brand-new video installation developed in recent months that will combine film, CGI, and virtual reality. It is a collaborative work that involves Jungian psychoanalysis of the films’ protagonists.

Both works investigate trans politics and the complexities of identity in the contemporary digital age, while remaining visually stunning and imposing works of real beauty.
