Telling the interlocking tales of a bunch of heroin addict friends in Leith in Edinburgh in the 1980s, Trainspotting on the stage contains all of the fiery wit, eloquent rage, and uncompromising dialogue that first appeared on Welsh’s pages.

Irvine Welsh’s generation-defining, Trainspotting, was famously adapted into a film directed by Danny Boyle, bringing Welsh's tale of Scottish drug users to the attention of the world at large.

However Welsh’s debut novel had already stirred interest in the theatre world. The first adaptation of Trainspotting for the theatre, by Harry Gibson, was staged a mere two years after the book was first published.

This new production is directed by Tracy Ryan and stars Shane O’Regan, Fionn Foley, Meg Healy, Lorcan Stain, and plays at The Olympia Theatre for a limited run of five shows, including two late showings at the weekend.
