The St Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre will this summer host the Irish Famine Exhibition which explores the Irish Potato Famine of 1845 to 1852, also known as the Great Hunger.

The primary cause of the famine, in a literal sense, was potato blight which afflicted numerous places in Europe throughout the 1840s. This exhibition explores what happened to cause this humanitarian disaster that saw more than a million people die of starvation and disease and more than a million people emigrate from the country, as well as painting a portrait of the life and times for those whose lives were affected by the food shortages.

There are rare 19th century photographs, witness accounts, contemporary sketches, as well as maps and statistical information, and a 15-minute video presentation.
