The Rossbrin Loop Walk - Fastnet Trails - 13km moderate Loop walk. The Fastnet Trails Walks Group have developed over 10 walks in Ballydehob, Schull and Aughadown.
This is a scenic coastal walk of about 13km along quiet country tarred roads, which takes about 3 hours to complete. This walk offers great coastal views over the Fastnet and Carbery’s Hundred Isles scattered along Roaring Water Bay.
From the head in Ballydehob (adjacent to the Community Centre), leave through the footpath at the back of the tennis courts, rise to Greenmount Road, and turning left go 3.5km south to reach the old Stouke Graveyard. Follow the purple arrows and the Fastnet Lighthouse soon becomes visible from the high point of the walk. A climb on the far side leads to a steep descent to Rossbrin Cove. As the walker passes the old Ballycummisk Copper Mine on the right there are spectacular views south over Rossbrin Castle. Continue on by the pier, and after two steep sections the walker rises to the site of the old Cappaghlass Copper Mine, before crossing an area of moorland with 360 degree views. A steep drop affords a birds-eye view of Jeremy Irons’ castle. Return via Greenmount to Ballydehob.
Points of Interest along the walk are
• The 12 Arch Bridge
• Old Graveyard at Stouke
• Rossbrin Castle, pier and mines
• Roaring Water Bay
