Ionad Cois Locha is an award winning centre at the foot of Mount Errigal, the tallest peak in Donegal, located 12km from Bunbeg. Watch carding, spinning and wool-weaving demonstrations and hear stories of local folklore.
Ionad Cois Locha Visitor Centre is a restored two-story farmhouse in Gweedore, County Donegal, with a farm museum and a large variety of animals.
This family attraction will be further enhanced by the addition of 'An Culturlann’, which is designed as a multi-purpose venue to seat between 200 and 500 people for concerts, theatre or cinema.
Ionad Cois Locha, which also has excellent conference facilities, will stage music events for larger audiences and thus attract bigger and more famous artists with a larger fan following.
Children can enjoy the adventure play area, which includes an artificial lake for safe, supervised water activities and a covered, supervised play area. Amongst the animals to observe and feed are red deer, the only native deer species in Ireland.
Take a guided tour of the weaver's cottage while there are also traditional music sessions every Tuesday during July and August and every Sunday from 14:30-16:00.
Guided storytelling boat trips on the lake allow you to view the distinctive, double-peaked summit of Mount Errigal and the glimmering granite of the Poison Glen from an entirely new angle. Watch out underwater as you pass near the site of a prehistoric crannog, the first 'Dunlewey', which now lies submerged beneath the water.
