The 40th anniversary and largest ever all Ireland Game Fair celebrates the Irish countryside.
The Irish Game Fair is a comprehensive, family-focused celebration of country life in Ireland, bringing together country sports with traditional crafts, fabulous food and drink, living history and entertainment.
However, as 2018 is the 40th anniversary of the Irish Game Fair concept, the NI and ROI fairs have been combined into one huge all-Ireland fair incorporating enhanced Fine Food and Living History Festivals at Shanes Castle.
International countrysports attractions, displays and competitions with unrivalled prize funds across shooting, gundogs, terriers and lurchers, stickmaking, flycasting and children’s angling including the opportunity to fish for trout.
There are unique shopping opportunities to buy into the country lifestyle, within a huge tented village of trade stands and a Fine Food & Crafts Festival featuring the best of artisan food from all over Ireland and the UK. Delicious - a premier UK food magazine, are judging their NI regional food awards and bringing their kitchen to the fair and there will be ongoing cookery demos headed up by Emmett Mc Court.
The Living History Festival is one of the largest in Ireland drawing on timelines based on local history from the Vikings through The Bruce’s & Williamite campaigns to the 1798 Rebellion ( and the 220th anniversary of the Battle of Antrim).
There will be thrilling re-enactments and medieval jousting as part of an interactive village of over 100 costumed re-enactors from Living History Ireland and the Knights of the North medieval jousting team (from the borders of Scotland).
There is an ongoing programe of family activities and entertainment in three arenas across the two days. The main arena programme includes a rich mix of countrysports and living history entertainment including horse & hounds, carriage driving, falconry, ferrets, Medieval jousting, bands, muzzle loaders, living history re-enactments & displays, dog shows and agility, with as much audience participation as is safely possible.
