The Irish Georgian Society will host an amazing exhibition of 18th century Irish paintings to mark the restoration of City Assembly House.

The Irish Georgian Society will host an amazing exhibition of 18th century Irish paintings to mark the restoration of City Assembly House.

City Assembly House — now the headquarters of the Irish Georgian Society — was erected 250 years ago by the Society of Artists in Ireland and was the first purpose-built gallery space for art exhibitions in Ireland or Great Britain. The building’s centrepiece is a stunning octagonal room which has, over the last two years, been painstakingly restored to its former glory.

This exhibition was will reassembly many of the paintings that would have been hung originally in that room, including the works of Thomas Roberts, Jonathan fisher, James Forrester, Robert Carvery, Robert Healy, and Hugh Douglas Hamilton. The exhibition will also explore a particularly fervent and creative period in the society of the Irish ascendancy during the Georgian era, which began to dissipate with the Act of Union in 1801.
