In Conversation with Polly Devlin will be hosted by journalist Suzanne Lowry and has been organised to raise funds for the Linen Hall Library.
Ms Devlin’s long-time editor and friend Suzanne Lowry, also a prolific journalist, will ask probing questions which will cover many aspects of Polly’s life including her early life beginnings in Northern Ireland, winning a writing contest in the 60s that landed her a job with the fashion bible Vogue, her career as a writer for some of the world’s most popular newspapers and magazines, and her books which include the recently published Writing Home (Pimpernel Press Ltd, 2019). There will also be a Q&A with the audience.
Ms Devlin has been fortunate to interview and socialise with some of the most iconic figures of the 20th and 21st centuries including Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Mick Jagger, Peggy Guggenheim, Jean Shrimpton, Andy Warhol and Princess Margaret. She has published a catalogue of books covering a range of genres and subjects from short stories, The Far Side of the Lough (reprinted by O’Brien Press, 1999), to interiors, New York: Places to Write Home About (Pimpernel Press Ltd, 2017). She was also a professor at Barnard College, Columbia University, New York, a career she loved. She was married to trailblazing industrialist Adrian Garnett with whom she has three amazing daughters.
The evening has been organised to raise funds for the Linen Hall Library, the oldest library in Belfast and one of a few remaining independent libraries in the UK. The Library is a charity and, aside from grants, raises money from membership, donations and fundraising initiatives.
Copies of Polly Devlin’s book ‘Writing Home’ will be available to purchase on the night.
