42nd Guinness Cork Jazz Festival to kick off with Blaze of Jazz Parade and red hot series of Fringe Events.
It’s almost time for the 42nd Guinness Cork Jazz Festival, which will kick off in spectacular ‘flare’ with a red hot ‘Blaze of Jazz Parade’ through the streets of Cork City on Friday October 25th.
This family-friendly parade will mix red-hot jazz bands with fiery Cork characters who will dance through the city streets in a dramatic musical procession full of flaming antics.
Kicking off at 7pm, the sensational fire-breathing, skeleton-led parade, replete with some of Ireland and Europe’s finest marching bands, will lift spirits ahead of Halloween and light fires in the bellies and hearts of locals and visitors alike for the festival weekend ahead, as it’s blaze and burning energy spread through the streets of Cork.
The sizzling theatrical musical march will start at Grand Parade, go down Oliver Plunkett Street, up Maylor Street, cross over St Patrick’s St and will finish at Emmet Place.
This Blaze of Jazz Parade kicks off a phenomenal line up of hot international acts for the weekend including giants of jazz Kurt Elling, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Spyro Gyra, Fred Hersch Trio and Dr Linley Hamilton.
In addition to the Parade and these international headliners, the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival Committee has produced an exciting fringe programme of free gigs and on street entertainment in over 70 city venues making sure there’s something for everyone throughout the jazz weekend.
But if you’re looking for a mix of jazz and coastal beauty over the weekend, then swing on down to the picturesque town of Kinsale in West Cork. The Guinness Kinsale Jazz Fringe Festival has an exciting line-up of more than 100 free gigs, including the Blues Brothers, over the weekend.
On top of this exciting array of fringe events, no trip to the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival would be complete without a visit to the famous Jazz Festival Club at the Metropole Hotel. Fans of swing, funk, groove, blues and dixieland will be well catered for with a vibrant mix of Irish and international acts on several stages throughout the hotel. Admission to the Festival Club is free on Friday 25th & Monday 28th October and during afternoon sessions. Saturday night 26th October & Sunday night October 27th – €30 each plus booking fee.
