Dublin’s Beatles Day will take place this year on Saturday, November 2nd, at the Workman’s Club in the heart of the city. This hugely popular annual event includes lots of live music, a stage play, and a Beatle quiz competition.

Here are the events this year.

2.00pm – NOT EXACTLY CARNEGIE HALL – €8

Not Exactly Carnegie Hall is a short play about The Beatles playing live in an illegal strip club in Liverpool in the summer of 1960, as told from the perspective of Allan Williams, the band's first manager. This play is completely based on fact.
It will be performed by Padraic McGinley. And it is written and directed by Stephen Kennedy.

The show will also include a set of songs from The Beatles played live by Fiach Moriarty. The show has a total running time of 50 minutes.
(Stephen Kennedy’s Beatle plays have been broadcast on the BBC, RTE and Radio Merseyside – and they have been staged in Dublin, Belfast, Liverpool, Dundee, Berlin and Washington DC.)

3.00pm – THE BEATLE BRAIN OF IRELAND – €5 per entry

This is a competition to find the person in Ireland who knows the most about The Beatles. It will be hosted by Denny and Steve from QUIZ-TASTIC. There will be three qualifying rounds (with 10 questions per round) – and the top three people from those rounds will then progress to a final on stage which will be run along the lines of Mastermind. There will be priceless trophies to be won... and some prizes too! And the public can watch the competition for free.

8.00pm – THE BIG GIG – €20

The ‘Big Gig’ this year includes performances from two amazing live bands. First up will be THE ROCKETS (Dublin) who play the explosive rock ‘n’ roll which inspired The Beatles in Hamburg between 1960 and 1962 (songs from Elvis, Eddie Cochran, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Gene Vincent, Link Wray, Little Richard... and more). THE NEWSPAPER TAXI MEN will then play a blistering headline set with a wide selection of songs from the different periods of The Beatles. This will be their first live performance in five years and it’s going to be something very special.
