War Changes Its Address is an exhibition of new work from Irish artist Brian Maguire.
War Changes Its Address is an exhibition of new work from Irish artist Brian Maguire. It is the result of a visit to war-torn Syria in 2017, and is made in the context of previous work of Maguire’s that examined the refugee crisis in the Mediterranean, to which the Syrian political situation is a huge contributory factory.
Maguire is a fiercely expressive painter whose work typically focuses on social and political issues. His paintings expose the violence and inhumanity that mankind is capable of and offers solidarity to victims of injustice around the world.
This latest series, The Aleppo Paintings, conjure the destruction in that city. This was witnessed first-hand by Maguire, rather than being mediated by politically motivated lenses, and the intensity of that experience is rendered viscerally in these works.
