Sligo Aero Club provides Introductory Flights, Pilot Training and has aircraft available for use by holders of Pilot Licenses.
Sligo Aero Club was formed in 1975 and prides itself in its long record of providing expert and safe pilot training. With an interest in aviation as the common denominator, it is an ideal environment to initially test your enthusiasm for flying, continue training if you have already started and achieve your objective of becoming a recreational pilot. For those of you with an ambition to become a professional airline pilot Sligo Aero Club provides a solid basis of practical instruction and good airmanship.
The facility is located on the Northwest coast at Sligo Airport, Strandhill, Co. Sligo - a modern regional airport with full ATC, a terminal Building, restaurant, ample parking facilities and car hire. (www.sligoairport.com) It has a 1200m tarmac runway (11/29) with lighting, PAPI's, NDB and DME.
As well as Sligo Aero Club aircraft (Cessna 172 and 152), it is home to a variety of privately owned aircraft - old and new - as well as being the base for the Coastguard Search and Rescue unit which uses Sikorsky S92 helicopters. It also hosts frequent aerobatic and parachuting operations.
Strandhill village - a mere 10 minutes walk - is a surfing mecca and has good range of bars, restaurants and accomodation as well as a modern camping/caravan park.
If you are interested in trying an Introductory Flight - you will be allowed to take the controls under the guidance of an experienced Commercial Pilot/Instructor - this is the place to start.
