A four day festival in one of the most beautiful villages in the Glens of Antrim.

Cushendun’s Big Arts Weekend is a four day festival of music, drama, poetry, exhibitions, workshops and family fun in one of the most beautiful villages in the Glens of Antrim.

This years festival coincides with the opening of the Cushendun Old Church Centre, a new venue for the arts, heritage and the community and we hope you can join us for a very special celebration. The programme has something for everyone and many of the events are free.

The weekend kicks of on Friday 3rd May with live music from 6 piece indie folk band ‘Runabay’. Everyone is welcome at Saturday’s famous ‘Share a Poem’ held in the unique setting of the Cushendun Hotel, and don’t miss the Saturday play ‘Extra Time‘ by Mark Shields, a comedy that gets to the heart of rural life in Northern Ireland.

Sunday is Family Fun Day at National Trust owned Glenmona House, with puppet shows, face- painting, kids workshops and giant games. The more serious minded will not want to miss Eamon Phoenix’s talk on 'The War of Independence in the Glens of Antrim' and on Sunday evening the music and poetry of Ciaran Carson.

On Monday the village hosts Naturally North Coast Artisan Market. And don’t miss the amazing Armagh Rhymers with a performance based around the work of glens artist Sam McLarnan. Other events include a painting workshop, street dance sessions, the John Hewitt Talk Lurig Drama and a guided walk around beautiful Murlough Bay.

Cushendun is a very picturesque village and well worth a visit at any time. Designed by Clough Williams-Ellis who also designed world famous Portmeirion, Cushendun has been home to many artists and writers including Louis MacNeice and John Masefield. The beautiful beach and lovely Glendun are at their best in spring and while you’re here you might want to pop in to the the spectacular caves featured in Game of Thrones®.
