Knockcroghery Village, Roscommon,
Ms Ethel Kelly
Come and see how the traditional Irish Clay pipes were made! Ethel will be delighted to give you a demonstration and tell you about the history of this famous pipe-making village. There are wonderful photographs and artifacts to enjoy.
The village of Knockcroghery has been famous since about 1700 for the traditional craft of Clay pipe making. Ethel Kelly’s workshop is located on the site of the historic Curley family pipe factory. The industry employed over a hundred people at its peak and supplied pipes for smokers through-out Ireland. The village was burned during the War of Independence and over-night the pipe making came to an end. The centre has wonderful photographs and displays to enjoy.
If you have time , why not give the pipe-making a try? The Claypipe Centre is also the home of the award winning Ogham Wishes and Bog Buddies range.
