The Goose Island Workshop is a small business deep in the heart of the Kerry countryside. Surrounded by mountains and beaches and the area is a popular destination for walkers, surfers, and people looking for quiet break in beautiful surroundings.
The Goose Island Workshop offers a full design and making service for the client that is looking for that special piece of handcrafted furniture.
They specialise in the making of bespoke free standing furniture and the production of Windsor chairs and stools and also offer a range of greenwood working courses for those who would like to experience the opportunity of making a piece of greenwood furniture for themselves. More recently they have developed a range of courses at the workshop offering customers an opportunity to make their own stools and chairs.
The business is run primarily by Garry, whose passion for wood working was founded during his time spent working as an apprentice carpenter. His interest in green wood working came during his years working as a tree surgeon in the Kennet valley west Berkshire. He gets a great amount of inspiration from the landscape and feels that being close to nature truly benefits his design process.
Their strength lies in the personal service they provide to their customer. Working directly with the designer-maker ensures that the customer’s requirements are met every time. Their aim is to provide a service that enables the client to best express their own needs in design. Their key word is sustainability and they believe strongly that if they are to marry the old standards of making to the modern ways of marketing they will create small rural business that will serve its customers faithfully for many years to come.
The idea to own and run his own work shop had always been his dream and now he devotes his life not only to the working of wood but also to promoting woodland craft and tree management through many mediums.
The other side of the team is Caroline, Garry’s wife who runs her own artist studio and provides design support to the work shop.
