Located in Listowel, County Kerry, the Garden of Europe opened in 1995. It contains more than 3,000 trees and shrubs and is divided into 12 sections, representing the 12 members of the European Union at the time of the project’s commencement. At the lower end of the garden is Ireland’s only public monument in memory of those who died in the Holocaust and to all victims of injustice and oppression.

The other end has as its focal point a splendid bust of the poet Schiller, who was the author of the European anthem the ‘Ode to Joy’, which was set to music in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.

The Garden of Europe is open all year round.
