The Irish National Opera will present a spectacular version of Giuseppe Verdi’s timeless opera, Aida, for a limited run of shows at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre this winter.

The opera tells the tale of the Ethiopian princess, Aida, who has been captured and enslaved by the Egyptians, and an Egyptian military commander, Radamès who struggles to choose between his love for Aida and his loyalty to the Pharaoh.

The Irish National Opera is a new company that formed from the merger of Opera Theatre Company and Wide Open Opera in 2017. Their new production, sung in the original Italian but subtitled in English, features Orla Boylan as the eponymous heroine and Gwyn Hughes Jones as Radamès.

Despite their relative youth as a company, the Irish National Opera are already making a name for themselves with their productions of The Second Violinist, The Marriage of Figaro, and The Tales of Hoffman. These large-scale shows with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra look set to be their biggest success to date.
